Dr. Katy Weber, DVM

Veterinarian, Owner and Founder of Southpaws Veterinary Clinic

Dr. Katy Weber grew up on her family's mixed animal farm, where her passion for veterinary medicine first took root. Surrounded by animals of every shape and size, she developed an appreciation for caring for creatures great and small. The values of hard work, compassion, and community continue to guide both her life and her approach to veterinary medicine.

After graduating from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, Katy completed a rotating internship in Saskatoon, where she discovered that emergency medicine was a natural fit. She combines a calm, practical approach with compassionate care, whether guiding someone through a routine wellness visit or a life-threatening emergency.

Experience in referral specialty hospitals, urgent care, academia, private practice, and corporate veterinary medicine across several provinces helped shape Katy's vision for Southpaws Veterinary Clinic, a locally owned, family-owned practice built on exceptional medicine, honest communication, practical solutions, and genuine relationships. She is passionate about creating a clinic that is responsive to the needs of Saskatoon's pet community, where people and their pets feel welcome, heard, and cared for.

Outside the clinic, Katy enjoys spending time with Matt and their three children, hiking, traveling, caring for their two dogs and three cats, and tending her vegetable garden. While she remains remarkably calm during emergencies, an early frost or unexpected snowfall threatening her tomato yield is another story entirely.

Dr. Matt Loewen, DVM, PhD

Veterinarian and Co-owner

Dr. Matt Loewen is the co-owner of Southpaws Veterinary Clinic and has been instrumental in helping bring the clinic to life. Working primarily behind the scenes, he helps oversee the clinic's operations, strategic planning, and continued growth, ensuring the team has everything they need to provide exceptional care.

A graduate of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, Matt brings a unique background in veterinary medicine, research, and education. His professional interests include nutrition, gastrointestinal health, and preventive medicine, and he is passionate about helping pets live longer, healthier lives through compassionate, evidence-based care. While you'll most often find him working behind the scenes, you may occasionally catch him helping with weekend appointments to support the Southpaws team.

Outside the clinic, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife, Katy, and their three children. Together they enjoy skiing, hiking, and spending time with their two dogs, three cats and one beta fish (Rainbow). When time allows, Matt enjoys restoring historic homes, including their 1914 character home and a 1920s farmhouse on the family's quarter section near Redberry Lake.
